The two jets skidded to a stop in the hangar under the salvage yard. The glass casing of the cockpits popped open and the four kats jumped to the floor. The SWAT Kats began to remove their G-Suits and masks as the Krusaders opened up their cargo bay.

They each pulled out a duffle bag.

Jake raised an eyebrow at this scene.

“Pretty confident you were gonna make it, huh?” Jake questioned.

Griffin looked up at Jake. “Actually no, but we didn’t want to go all the way back to that giant litter box if we did!”

Chance laughed at the joke. “Yeah, it was a bit too dry for my tastes.”

The two Krusaders removed their G-Suits, showing the two Swat Kats what they looked like for the first time.

Griffin was a shorter, muscular kat, standing at 5’10″ and weighing about 250 pounds. His fur was a brownish tan color, with dark brown eyes. His forearms bore many claw marks and scars.

Ace was taller and lankier. He stood about 6’2″ and weighed 220 lbs. His fur was as a black as a starless night, when the moon is out of phase. His green eyes seemed to stand out above the rest of his features.

Griffin was the first to introduce himself. “Hello, my name is Kodra, and this is my partner, Mark.”

“Okay… now we know what your names are, we want to find out more about you guys’ past,” Jake said.

“Perhaps we could find a more comfortable place to talk?” Mark said.

“Of course, let’s talk in the living room,” Chance offered. He led the way up the ladder and into the living room.

The Katsonville Krusaders sat down on the couch, while Jake took the chair and Chance stood.

“So, what’s your story? Why’d you become vigilantes?” Jake asked.

“Have you ever been to Katsonville before? The only thing to do there for fun is criminal. Well, we decided we’d have fun by fighting crime,” Kodra responded.

“Plus, we were capable of bringing down the crime rate about 30 percent,” added Mark.

“Ok, so how did you afford all your gear?” Chance questioned.

“We collected a lot of bounties the Enforcers had put out,” Kodra answered.

“We also used the profits off my chemical formulas and Kodra’s computer programs,” added Mark.

“Plus, we were born into a rather wealthy family,” Kodra finished.

“That pretty much covers my questions. You have any, Chance?” Jake asked.

“Yeah, how much do you know about cars?” Chance asked.

“Enough to be of use for you guys,” Mark said.

“Well, I’m out of questions. Let’s take a tour of the place,” Chance replied. The four kats made their way to the stairs. They climbed up them, and Jake pointed out two rooms. “This is our ‘office’ which we never use, so one of you can sleep there and this is our guest room, which is never used,” Jake explained.

“I get the office,” Kodra stated.

“Ok, I’ll just set my stuff down in the guest room,” Mark stated.

“Yeah, this is the bathroom, ” Jake said as he pointed to a door adjacent to Kodra and Mark’s new rooms. “And those are our rooms. You saw the kitchen already and living room. The garage is out front.”

A loud honk echoed through the halls.

“That sounds like Cal…,” Chance commented. Before he’d finished with his sentence, Jake was down the stairs and on his way to the garage.

“Hehe, Jake sure seems excited to see this customer,” commented Kodra.

“Hoo yeah, he has it REAL bad for her. The customer’s Callie Briggs, the Deputy Mayor,” Chance stated.

Kodra laughed, “Oh, I know who it is. She seems to be your number one customer.”

The three kats idly descended the stairs. When they got to the garage they saw Jake taking a look under the hood of the familiar green car while talking to Callie.

“You made it down here pretty quickly, Jake.  You seemed pretty excited,” Chance said.

Jake blushed a deep red hue. “Err… I like to make sure that we always keep our best customer with good service, unlike you!” Jake countered. “Besides, this is gonna take awhile; she’s gonna need a whole new transmission.”

“Aw Crud! You’re kidding right?” Chance replied.

“So, this isn’t gonna be a in and out type of thing?” Callie asked.

                “Afraid not, ma’am,” replied Kodra.

Callie looked over to the source of the new voice. “Who are you two?”

“I’m Kodra and this is Mark,” Kodra explained.

“They’re working for us because we’re already swamped with stuff as it is,” Chance informed.

“Hey, Callie, would you like a ride home?” Jake asked. He bit his lower lip. Callie never needed a ride home. She always had the mayor’s limo waiting outside for her. Still, no harm in asking.

“Actually that’d be great. I didn’t think this would take too long honestly. That’s actually why I came here so close to closing. I thought I could get in and out.”

“Yeah, well, you’re lucky it’s here now, instead of out driving with a transmission that’s about to blow,” Chance replied.

“Here, Callie, follow me.  The truck is outside,” Jake said as he began walking towards the garage door.

Once he and Callie were out of sight, Kodra and Chance began cracking up.

“Does he always turn that red when you do that?” Kodra asked between laughs.

“Nah, but that was hysterical,” Chance replied.

“Hey, lay off the poor guy. He’s just really shy around women!” Mark replied.

“At least he’s not as shy as you.  You wouldn’t have been able to even talk if you were in his situation,” Kodra replied.

Mark sighed. “I’m gonna go look for a new transmission in the junk. You hyenas can join me whenever you settle down.”

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

A half-hour had passed since Jake and Callie had left the Salvage Yard. The first ten minutes had passed with some idle chitchat but that died off, and they had been a silence for the past twenty minutes. The silence was rudely interrupted by what sounded like an explosion. They were driving down a main road, and in the distance they saw what appeared to be a battle. Bullets and laser shots were flying everywhere.

“Callie, are you seeing what I’m seeing?” Jake asked.

“It looks like a skirmish, but we aren’t at war or anything. What the heck is going on?” Callie wondered. “Maybe there is an Enforcer simulation I forgot about.”

The shooting stopped, and Enforcers charged across the road from the left side. Whatever it was, the Enforcers won. Jake let out a sigh of relief when he heard the piercing sound of an Enforcer siren. Jake pulled the pickup to the side of the road as he saw an armored transport speed by. A white streak of smoke zipped across the road from the right and an explosion sent the transport into an alley. Jake pulled into the alley right before the one the missile came from and put the car in park. He opened up a compartment under the seat and pulled out two guns: a pistol and a shotgun. He handed the shotgun to Ms. Briggs.

“Stay put, Ms. Briggs. I’m gonna assess the scenario and figure out how to get us out of this alive. If anyone comes close to this car that’s not an Enforcer or me, blast them with the shotgun and give it a pump,” Jake explained as he exited the car with his gun in his hand.

He looked over at the alley where the armored car landed. Several Enforcers were there, and the truck was providing adequate cover for the Enforcers to shoot from. The fact that there was no lessening of the rate of fire the Enforcers were taking suggested that their opponents were in the same situation. He then heard a very soft ‘FOOOOT’ sound above him. He looked over to see a young Enforcer go down.

’Must have a rooftop sniper, that needs to be remedied if the Enforcers are to stand a chance,’ he thought to himself.   ‘The rooftop will also serve as a good hiding place for Callie.’ He ran back to the truck. He opened the driver’s side door and climbed in. He bent down and grabbed three ammo clips from the gun compartment. “If we can get to the roof, we’ll be safe from the skirmish. There’s only one person on the roof, and he’s a sniper. I should be able to take him down easily,” Jake explained.

“Are you sure? That sounds dangerous, Jake,” Callie commented.

“I may have been kicked off the force, but that doesn’t mean I can’t fire a gun. I’ll be fine. Once the roof is clear, I’ll come back down for you. Once up there, I want you to get down. I’m gonna see what I can do to stop whoever’s attacking the Enforcers,” Jake said. “Wish me luck.”

Just as Jake was turning to leave, Callie grabbed his arm and pulled him toward her. She quickly gave him a short kiss on the lips.

                “For luck,” she said.

With that, Jake dashed out of the truck. He was no longer the normal Jake Clawson. Jake Clawson would have been stupefied by that kiss. He had become Razor, though even he didn’t realize this yet. He began to climb up the ladder on the side of the building. The building was only two stories tall, so it was a very short climb. When he got to the point where his left hand was on the last rung, he grabbed the gun with his right hand. He sprung up onto the building, shooting the sniper in the back. Blood flowed from the wound, and the young kat fell sideways onto the ground. Jake started back towards the ladder. When he looked down, he saw the deputy mayor already climbing up. When she got to the top, Jake helped her up. He was about to go do some sniping of his own when a grappling hook latched onto the short wall that lined the roof. Jake ran over and aimed his gun down the rope. When he looked, he saw Lieutenant Felina Feral climbing up. She looked up at him and continued climbing up the rope.

“What’s your name, pal?” she asked as he helped her over the ledge.

“Jake Clawson. You’re Lieutenant Feral? Seen you on the news a lot,” Jake answered. “What level of force are you using in this situation?”

                “Lethal,” she replied.

“Ok. Here, you can have his sniper rifle if you want it. I’m better with a pistol myself,” Jake handed Felina the rifle. “Callie, keep your head down!”

Felina looked beyond Jake to see the deputy mayor lying on the ground. “Ms Briggs! What are YOU doing here?” Felina screeched, wide eyed.

“I was getting a ride home from Jake, until this happened. Jake told me I’d be safer up here,” Callie explained.

“Well that’s probably true. Just keep your head down!” Felina ordered.

Jake was up against the wall, signaling for the lieutenant to join him. He counted to three on his fingers as the signal. On three, they both leapt up and started shooting at the large group of street soldiers. Jake fired off eight shots, and Felina got off three. Jake dropped back down with his back to the wall. He heard the words, “Fire in the hole,” off in the distant. He jumped up to see a grenade heading towards the roof. He took three shots, and the grenade exploded in a glorious yellow explosion. Jake ducked back down as fire flew overhead. He jumped to the side and got back up. He saw the grenadier about to throw another grenade. He took aim and shot the grenadier in the heart. The grenade dropped to the ground and exploded. The fire ceased for a few seconds. One guy was shouting orders out. He ran over to the dead grenadier and grabbed a grenade. He chucked it up towards the rooftop. Jake aimed at the grenade and fired, but all that came was a soft clicking.

                “DUCK AND COVER!” Jake screamed.

Felina jumped over the roof and grabbed onto the ladder. Jake ran over to Callie, who was currently trying to contact the Swat Kats, and swept her up into his arms and leapt to the next building in the alley. He set Callie down. He ran to the edge of the building and proceeded to shoot most of the remaining gangsters. The leader began to run towards the back of the alley. Jake spotted a manhole at the end of the alley.

“OH, NO, YOU DON’T!” Jake hollered as he leapt from the top of the building onto the fleeing kat. The force of the jump crippled the thug and injured Jake. Jake tumbled forward a bit and regained his footing. The Enforcers were beginning to round up all of the remaining thugs, so Jake took his opportunity to perform an investigation of his own. He quickly patted down the unconscious leader and relieved him of his wallet. He then slung the body over his shoulder and walked over to the scene where Felina was busy wrapping everything up and frantically trying to deal with the press. Jake dropped the body on the ground behind Felina.

“Here’s the leader. Lieutenant. He was making a run for a manhole cover. Do you need anything else of me?”

Felina turned to face Jake, “I’d just like to thank you for all that you did out there tonight, and I insist on rewarding you. Is there anything you’d like?”

Jake pondered this offer for a few seconds and then smiled as he replied, “Lieutenant Feral, I spent three 10 MM clips tonight, I was wondering if you’d be able compensate me?”

Felina looked at him incredulously and then laughed as she pulled three clips from her belt. “Here, these are most likely the best three clips I’ve ever used,” she said as she handed over the clips.

Jake smiled and quickly left the scene and headed back towards the alley. Callie was waiting for him in the tow truck.

Jake entered into the driver’s seat and turned to face Callie. “You ready to go home now, Callie? I think we’ve had our fair share of excitement tonight.”

Callie nodded her head in agreement, “Yeah, I’ve never quite seen anything like this before. Not in MegaKat at least. C’mon, let’s go. I don’t want to be seen by the reporters or they’ll surely question me.”

Jake started up the car and made his way towards Callie’s apartment. The ride to her apartment was quiet enough. Jake’s mind was rushing with all sorts of possibilities what the night’s encounters could’ve meant. As Callie pointed towards her apartment, he parked in the visitors lot. He turned the car off and got out to walk Callie to her door. When they were at the door, Jake was about to say goodnight when Callie interrupted him.

“Jake, this weekend there’s a big promotional gala for Manx’s next run at re-election. I need an escort, and I was wondering if you would be willing to take me?”

Jake’s heart began to pound as he realized what exactly Callie was asking him. He nervously replied, “Ye… Yeah! I’d love to!”

Callie smiled wide at him. “Thank you very much, Jake. I’ll call you tomorrow for the details.”  Jake’s eyes shot wide open as Callie gave him a quick kiss and whispered, “Goodnight Jake.” With that, she went into her apartment and shut the door.
